On December 10, 1999, George Michael was the guest of the morning show at 98.8 Capital FM Radio. This is a 6-part interview by Neil Fox, and the transcript was posted on the Capital FM radio website. Below is Part 6 of the interview:
The charming Mr. Michael joined our inimitable Dr. Fox for a good old chin wag to chat about life, the universe, vicars and big hair…
It was breakfast time, and most of us were just coming to terms with a new day, but these two had been up since the crack of dawn, chatting away like old mates catching up on all the goss…
Part 1
First they had a chat about George’s latest album, ‘Songs From the Last Century,’ and how he came to make the very difficult choices of what to put on the album, what to leave out and why he made those decisions.
Part 2
Then it was time to talk about their mutual mate, Robbie, and the pressure that George reckons he’s under to keep rolling out the hits – and he’s been there!
Part 3
There was a quick prediction for Record Of The Year 1999 and then Foxy tried to pin George down on a ticklish subject – when, oh when are the fans going to be able to see him perform live again!!???
Part 4
George talks about his fans and how he seems to get one of two very extreme reactions from them when they meet face to face…
Part 5
Then it was time to talk about the contenders for the Christmas Number One spot… and that’s when George made those comments about Cliff Richard…
Part 6
Almost time to bid their fond farewells, but before he nipped off for a hearty breakfast, George let Foxy and the listeners in on his plans for New Millenium Eve and a naughty secret he’s been keeping hidden from us all. Bad boy George!

Part 6:
It’s nearly time for George to go, but before he disappears, he lets us in on his New Millennium Eve plans and a naughty little secret he’s been hiding from the world…
Foxy: Well, crikey, how do we end all this? It’s been lovely having you in George. Just one thing, you mentioned earlier that you might be doing a more up tempo, pop sort of album as we move into the new Millennium, now when we last met you said that you were going to try and have the Millennium Number One… whatever happened to that??
George: Shall I tell you something I did which was really naughty…
Foxy: Go on…
George: Well… I’ve never done anything like this before, and I feel really guilty about it, but the fact is, I started writing the song, and I thought this is gonna be really good…
Foxy: What was it like?
George: It was called ‘Y2K’ and it was uptempo and I asked my publicist, and this is sooo not like me, I asked that they put it out on the wire that I was releasing this single or someone else is going to do it – someone else is going to call their song ‘Y2K’
Foxy: So you wanted to get the name out…
George: Yeah, I almost wanted to get the name under copyright, but then I finished the song and it was crap!
Foxy: You gave Will Smith a call instead!
George: Yeah, I said here you go Will you can use it! No, so I’ve never done anything sneaky like that before… I hadn’t actually finished the song and I pretended…
Foxy: How bad was it?
George: It wasn’t really bad, but to be a song for the Millennium it needed to be great, and it was good, but there wasn’t enough fromage. I actually wrote it when I was talking to fans on my website and stuff. I was saying that I’m going for it, but if it’s not good enough, then I’m not putting it out.
Foxy: Now, what will you be doing for Millennium Eve ‘cos the last time I spoke to you, you had no plans…
George: Invite me to something! Actually I’m going to Geri’s house I think – she’s the only person I know having a party.
Foxy: That will be a fun one I reckon.
George: Yeah, she’s the only person I know that’s got the guts to have a party on Millenium night. I mean what are most people doing? Most people have told me that they’re staying home.
Foxy: Me and my friends decided we wanted to celebrate together, so we’re just going round each other’s houses.
George: (in a brummy accent) We want to be together…
Foxy: Yeah, we want to be together we do.
George: I think it’s fantastic that all these greedy pubs, clubs and restaurants have realised that they’re going to be empty ‘cos most people want to spend New Year’s Eve with friends and family, a group of people that you love, and the truth is that everyone doesn’t have the same income, so rather than embarrass two or three members of the group, people have just thought, it’s going to be a nightmare, we’re going to get ripped off so we’re just staying at home and getting absolutely plastered which is absolutely the sensible thing to do! When you think of the hype of the Millennium, I think it’s really good to see the business hype not work and to see people in general say, no we’re human beings, we’re not completely thick…
Foxy: Exactly, we’re not going to pay £200 to get into the club that normally costs us a tenner.
George: I bet you’ll find in the next couple of weeks, people advertising normal prices.
Foxy: I think you’re right. George. As always it’s a pleasure to have you in. The music is brilliant and class as always, love the new album, but people do want to see you play live so please consider it…
George: The most likely thing, if there is a possibility, then it will be the Albert Hall for a kind of stint.
Foxy: Well we look forward to a big announcement then George! Just give us a date and we’ll be ready for it!
George: I’m seriously pressured now aren’t I… I’ll get back to you on that.
Foxy: Okey dokey. Happy Christmas to you, really appreciate you coming in this morning.
George: Thanks very much.
