On December 10, 1999, George Michael was the guest of the morning show at 98.8 Capital FM Radio. This is a 6-part interview by Neil Fox, and the transcript was posted on the Capital FM radio website. Below is Part 3 of the interview:
The charming Mr. Michael joined our inimitable Dr. Fox for a good old chin wag to chat about life, the universe, vicars and big hair…
It was breakfast time, and most of us were just coming to terms with a new day, but these two had been up since the crack of dawn, chatting away like old mates catching up on all the goss…
Part 1
First they had a chat about George’s latest album, ‘Songs From the Last Century,’ and how he came to make the very difficult choices of what to put on the album, what to leave out and why he made those decisions.
Part 2
Then it was time to talk about their mutual mate, Robbie, and the pressure that George reckons he’s under to keep rolling out the hits – and he’s been there!
Part 3
There was a quick prediction for Record Of The Year 1999 and then Foxy tried to pin George down on a ticklish subject – when, oh when are the fans going to be able to see him perform live again!!???
Part 4
George talks about his fans and how he seems to get one of two very extreme reactions from them when they meet face to face…
Part 5
Then it was time to talk about the contenders for the Christmas Number One spot… and that’s when George made those comments about Cliff Richard…
Part 6
Almost time to bid their fond farewells, but before he nipped off for a hearty breakfast, George let Foxy and the listeners in on a his plans for New Millenium Eve and a naughty secret he’s been keeping hidden from us all. Bad boy George!

Part 3:
Foxy: George just confessed that he could do the dance to that song many years ago. So why can’t you do it anymore George?
George: I’m an old man aren’t I. I’m an old man!
Foxy: You can still shake your thing. When you came on at Net Aid, we’ll talk about it properly later, but when you came on there, the crowd went mad for you. I mean, Ricky Martin is very much a live performer; the crowd go whoop and they just go demented. The same thing for you at Wembley. Don’t you miss that buzz of being live? Of all the e-mails and faxes we’ve had from listeners, I reckon a good 90% of them are asking when is George doing a gig then?
George: I love being on stage. I love performing. It’s very difficult. It’s difficult to do a tour that’s going to be acceptable for me in terms of it’s time and the size of the halls I would like to play. I would want to play in small halls and I wouldn’t want to tour for very long, so I couldn’t play everywhere. It’s very difficult ‘cos basically I hate touring.
Foxy: But you’re in that great position, as an international megastar, that you can say, I’ll do a few nights in London, I’ll do a few nights in New York and I think that’ll do, thanks very much. I mean no-one’s seen you do a whole, live gig for such a time now.
George: Hmmm yeah. I feel that if I play just a few places then I aggravate everybody else. One day I’ll bite the bullet, but I’m just not ready now.
Foxy: Do it one day George! Right, now we’d thought we’d make George Michael do a bit of work. We’ve got the weekend travel here…
George: You got me doing this last time… do you dock this out of the other guy’s wages or what?
Foxy: Yeah, we told Russ Kane he could land his plane now ‘cos we’ve got a pro in. So what have we got this morning then George?
George: Right. It says here, it’s a busy Christmas shopping weekend and remember to buy your copy of George Michael’s latest album…
Foxy: (big laugh) Does it really say that?
George: Yep, and it also says, expect delays around shopping precincts as there are queues for this record… no actually, what it says is expect delays around Brent Cross, surprise, surprise, Bluewater and Lakeside shopping centres. Hammersmith Bridge will be closed this weekend for repairs. (in a Northern accent) Roadworks in Moorgate on Saturday and Sunday will cause delays with local diversions in operation. From this Sunday on the A406, Waterworks roundabout in Woodford, expect major delays due to the new George Michael album…
Foxy: Lovely.
George: Sorry, that’s carriageway reconstruction in Woodford.
Foxy: Are there any other accents you like to do? Steve Penk would be impressed.
George: Would he? Ok, I’ll come in again then and do some of those wind-ups.
Foxy: But what other accents can you do when you’ve had a few beers. What’s your party piece?
George: You don’t want to know.
Foxy: Oh, come on, what is it?
George: I’m not telling you!
Foxy: Is it outrageous? Is it embarrassing?
George: VERY embarrassing.
Foxy: Ok fine… God, I’m dying to know…
George: You’ll have to come to one of my parties… and you’ll be sworn to secrecy.
George chats to Foxy about his fans and the strange reactions he gets sometimes, all in Part 4…In the next issue of PG!
