On June 25, 2011, the official georgemichael.com website reported that George Michael is participating in a charity fundraising initiative called Soundwaves.
Soundwaves is an artwork project dedicated to raising money for charity by translating music into works of art. Artist Tim Wakefield creates representation of songs captured in the studio recording then placed in canvas.
George Michael added his hit song “Jesus to a Child” to the Soundwaves portfolio. Other artists include Bon Jovi, Paul McCartney, Duran Duran, Coldplay, among others. The resulting artworks based on the song were then auctioned in aid of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, the UK’s largest specialist music therapy charity that helps improve the quality of life for children and adults who have been isolated by disability, trauma or illness.
George said of the auction:
“This is an amazing project and gives a whole new dimension to the artistry involved in music. As an artwork collection, it is just fantastic and, as a means of raising money for Nordoff-Robbins, it is sheer brilliance. I am delighted to support it on both counts.”
The “Jesus to a Child” artworks were signed by George and were sold at auction benefiting Nordoff-Robbins. Auctions handled the auction on June 25, 2011. Here are the “Jesus to a Child” artwork images created by the artist:
While the original and personalized canvasses of the Jesus to a Child artwork are no longer available, signed prints are still available for sale in various art galleries such as St. Paul’s Gallery in Birmingham, UK and Icon Gallery in Singapore.
