About 100 people camped out at the Pensacola Civic Center Friday night to assure they would get front row seats to George Michael’s rock concert.
Tickets were to go on sale at 10 a.m. today for Michael’s concert to be held at the Civic Center Oct. 31. Pensacola is the last stop for rock star Michael, who is just finishing up his 1988 “Faith” world tour.
“This is the first concert I’ve ever been to, so I thought I’d do it all out,” said Cricket Mees, 18, a UWF student who was studying Friday night while waiting in line.
Most of those in line arrived sometime Friday afternoon. But Sandra Tomlinson, 19, was the first to stake out a spot in front of the ticket booth. She got there at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
Most of the people brought food and drinks and sat on lawn chairs wrapped in blankets. They kept themselves occupied by playing cards, reading, listening to the radio and talking.
Brenda Long did needlepoint to keep herself busy. She and friend Cheryl “Sunnie” Gates camp out for all the concerts.
“We’re usually the first ones here. We’re so spoiled with front row seats,” Gates said.
Carolyn Johns, 43, said she’s been to four of his concerts.
“I wouldn’t do this for anyone but him,” she said. “He’s just fabulous.”
Johns’ aunt, Catherine Lockstead, 67, kept her company.
“I saw him last week and I’m telling you he’s adorable. He affects people of every age,” she said.
